Online ADHD assessment

A full ADHD assessment does not require travel. With ADH-Me, the clinical interview, the rating scales, the QbCheck test and your feedback session can all take place from home, by video.

The short answer

An online ADHD assessment is a full clinical assessment carried out by video, not a quick quiz. ADH-Me assesses people online across Wales and the UK. The clinical interview with one of our ADHD specialists, the rating scales, the QbCheck objective test and the feedback session can all be done from home. The Comprehensive ADHD Assessment is £895.

If you would prefer to meet face to face, in-person appointments in South and West Wales, including school-based appointments, can be arranged subject to availability.

How an online assessment works

  1. Free screeningStart with the free adult screening, or the child screening for a young person. It is a short questionnaire, not a diagnosis. Our guide to ADHD tests for adults explains the difference.
  2. Get in touchWe reply to every enquiry personally, explain which package is most suitable, and arrange your appointments.
  3. Clinical interview by videoAn in-depth conversation about your life now and as a child, from your own home.
  4. Rating scales and QbCheckQuestionnaires, plus the QbCheck test on your own computer using a link we send you.
  5. Report and feedbackA detailed written report following NICE guideline NG87, and a video session to talk it through.

Our page on the adult ADHD assessment explains what each part covers in more detail.

For many adults, video works well, and it can be easier to talk openly from your own space. Some people prefer to meet in person, and that can be arranged subject to availability. For children, observing how they manage at school can add valuable information. Read more about ADHD in children.

The QbCheck test, done at home

Most of an ADHD assessment depends on how you describe yourself. QbCheck adds an objective measure. It is an online test made by Qbtech: shapes appear on screen, you respond to some and not others, and the test records your attention and impulse control while the webcam tracks how much you move. Your results are compared with people of the same age and sex who don't have ADHD.

Because it runs in your browser, it fits naturally into an online assessment. It supports the diagnosis but never decides it on its own. Read the full guide to the QbCheck ADHD test.

How to prepare for an online ADHD assessment

  • Your space. A quiet, private room where you will not be interrupted or overheard.
  • Your tech. A reliable internet connection, and a laptop or desktop computer with a working webcam for QbCheck. Charge it and test the camera beforehand.
  • Your childhood. Old school reports if you have them, and anything a parent or older relative remembers about you as a child. NICE guidance values information from people who know you well.
  • Your life now. A few notes on how your difficulties show up at work, at home and in relationships, with real examples.
  • Your health. A list of any medicines you take and any other diagnoses. If you already take ADHD medication, mention it before the QbCheck test.
  • Someone who knows you. If a partner, parent or close friend can share their view, ask them in advance.

There is nothing to revise and nothing to pass. The aim is an accurate picture of how things are for you on a typical day.

If you live outside Wales

ADH-Me assesses people online across Wales and the UK, so you can have your assessment by video wherever you live. The diagnosis and report are the same.

What happens afterwards with medication depends on where you live and on your own GP practice. Shared care is always your GP practice's decision, and our shared care guide is written for Wales. If you live in England, Scotland or Northern Ireland and think you may want medication, ask your practice about shared care before you book, and tell us where you live when you get in touch so we can explain what is possible.

After an online assessment

If you are diagnosed and medication is right for you, our ADHD specialist prescribers can start it and adjust the dose with you throughmedication titration, with reviews by video. Common questions

Is an online ADHD assessment as good as one in person?

It can be, if it is a full assessment rather than a quick questionnaire. A video assessment can include the same clinical interview, rating scales, objective testing and detailed report as one in person. What matters is how thorough it is, not whether it happens on screen.

Can I have an online ADHD assessment if I live outside Wales?

ADH-Me assesses people online across Wales and the UK. If you live outside Wales and may want medication, please tell us where you live when you get in touch, and ask your own GP practice about shared care before you book.

Is the QbCheck test done online?

Yes. QbCheck is done at home on a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam, using a link sent when your assessment is booked.

What do I need for an online ADHD assessment?

A quiet, private room, a reliable internet connection, and a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam for the QbCheck test. Notes about your childhood and daily life, and old school reports if you have them, are also helpful.
